Decentralization of Care
In accordance with its mission to eliminate barriers to care, HTH supports the decentralization of its comprehensive treatment services to underserved communities through the establishment of satellite clinics.

InstituteThe Community Health Institute of Togo is the only facility offering comprehensive HIV/AIDS treatment services in the Kara region of Togo.
In 2005, HTH began operating out of a 20-room health center, newly constructed through a grant from the United States Department of Defense. The Community Health Institute of Togo, furnished and staffed by HTH, houses all of the Initiatives programs and services.
The Clinic itself is more than 300 square meters (>5500 sq feet), which provides ample space for patient needs. The clinic can be functionally divided into two wings, a medical wing and a psychosocial and technical wing.
The primary medical wing consists of 6 medical consultation rooms and a restroom facility. Each room is equipped with up to two beds, chairs, and a table for consultations with on site medical staff. Although the clinic is designed to be primarily outpatient, it will be able to support over night stays for sustained intravenous rehydration and medication.
The psychosocial/medical support wing has 4 counseling rooms, the medical staff room, a restroom, and the laboratory facility. Other rooms in the clinic include a nurses' station for further patient processing, a pharmacy with a locking refrigerator and cabinets, and a large conference room for meetings.
All patient records are confidential and are kept in a locked file cabinet and/or password protected computer. Each member's HIV status is coded and kept separate from other records for added security.
